Сўнгги ўн йилликларда болалар ва катталар орасида нефролитиаз муаммоси тобора долзарб бўлиб қолмоқда. Нефролитиаз деярли 75-80% ҳолларда кальций тузларидан, яъни танага озиқ-овқат орқали кирадиган кальций оксалатидан (CaOx) иборат, аммо асосий қисми эндоген йўл билан ҳосил бўлиши исботланган. Қандли диабет ва семизлик билан касалланган беморларда гипероксалурия тез-тез учраб, тош ҳосил бўлиш хавфини оширади. Бундан ташқари, болалик даврида ўз вақтида аниқланмаган гипероксалурия катта ёшда нефролитиазга олиб келиши мумкин.
