This article investigates the nuanced semantic properties of the color black as an adjective in both Uzbek and English languages. Through a comparative analysis, it examines how speakers of these languages perceive, understand, and employ the concept of blackness in diverse contexts. Drawing upon linguistic theory and cultural studies, the study delves into the cultural and perceptual associations embedded within the linguistic representations of blackness in each language. It explores the multifaceted meanings and connotations attributed to black, encompassing themes of darkness, elegance, mourning, authority, and rebellion, among others. Additionally, the research investigates the extent to which these semantic dimensions overlap or diverge across linguistic and cultural boundaries. By shedding light on the semantics of black in Uzbek and English, this study contributes to our understanding of how color terms shape language and culture, offering insights into the intricate interplay between language, perception, and society
