this article is devoted to the analysis of the work of the English writer and playwright of the XVIII century, Nicholas Rowe, and his tragedy "Amir Timur"; in the article the poetics of this tragedy is investigated and its role and place in English literature is determined. The English writer Nicholas Rowe is the author of the tragedies "Amir Timur" (Tamerlane, 1701), The Fair Penitent (1703), Ulysses (1705), The Tragedy of Jane Shore (The Tragedy of Jane Shore, 1714), as well as about a hundred small works of the poetic genre.
