The article deals with the theme of the East and oriental traditions in eighteenth-century Western European literature, especially German literature. At the same time, it is said that the interest of German orientalists in Oriental poetry and Oriental mythology influenced on the development of German literature. German writers focused on Eastern poetry as a basis for the exchange of experiences between peoples and the understanding of oriental poetry. The fact that the ideas of humanism and tolerance in German literature are expressed in an Oriental way or that the image of an Oriental person is depicted in the works plays an aesthetic role.
