This article aims to study the emergence of stylistics as a branch of linguistics and the formation of functional styles, in particular, the scientific style, and the history of research related to them. Linguistic analysis, observation, comparison, classification, lexicographic, semantic-stylistic analysis methods were used in the research. Stylistics is the first branch of linguistics. Functional styles have existed since the time when people lived in groups. Although functional styles existed during this period, they were not scientifically studied. As a result of the recognition of linguistics as a science and its in-depth study by scientists, it has been proven that it consists of various departments. The scientific foundations of stylistics have been formed since the beginning of the 20th century. From the middle of the 20th century, theories about the central issues of stylistics and functional styles emerged. In particular, we can see the early roots of the scientific style from the time of the ancient Turkic language. The works of Alisher Navoi are important in the formation and development of the scientific style in the Turkish (Uzbek) language. Later, due to the Russian occupation and socio- political factors, a number of changes occurred in the method of scientific presentation of sciences. The linguistic features of the scientific style in Uzbek linguistics were monographically researched at the end of the 20th century.
