The article discusses the reasons for the naming of the ethnotoponyms of the Fergana region and the factors that led to such naming. If the ethnonyms provide information about the ethnic group and tribe of different peoples who lived in the territory of Fergana region in the past and are still living in the present, the ethnotoponyms serve to specify and identify the places and regions where this ethnic group lived. Therefore, the study of ethnonyms and ethnotoponyms not only provides valuable information about the stages of formation of the Uzbek pronoun system, but also becomes important in conducting research in various directions of culture and spirituality. In the article, the types of ethnotoponyms according to the naming motives were studied using the methods of linguistic description and classification, statistical and etymological analysis.
