This article tells about the term "semantics" in linguistics and the area named by this name, about the history of its origin and development. The question of the existence of different points of view on the study of semantics in world linguistics and Uzbek linguistics was raised. Information will be provided on the work done in this direction, as well as topical issues related to this direction. Semantics and semasiology are shown, at the same time the concepts of semiotics, their interaction, general and various aspects.
