When separating raw cotton from the air in the separator of the pneumatic conveying system, the process negatively affects the natural quality indicators of raw materials. This article presents the results of a theoretical study of the movement of cotton on a rotating mesh surface, according to which, depending on the mass of cotton and its initial coordinate, it was found that the bulk of cotton goes beyond the boundaries of the mesh surface without mechanical action, under the influence of its own weight and centrifugal force. Based on the results obtained, a separator of a new design was developed, which has a rotating movable mesh surface and a fixed scraper, in the production tests of which it was found that it does not have a negative impact on the quality of cotton
