ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This scientific article investigates the spatial and temporal distribution patterns of suspended particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) in the atmospheric air of Tashkent during the winter season of 2025-2026. The analysis is based on data obtained from eight automatic air quality monitoring stations (Horiba) located across the city. Using the IDW (Inverse Distance Weighting) interpolation method, PM2.5 and PM10 distribution maps, heatmaps, diurnal period-based distributions, boxplots, proportional diurnal distribution diagrams, and variability graphs were generated and analyzed. The results indicate persistently elevated concentrations of particulate matter in the western and northwestern districts of the city, while relatively lower levels were observed in the eastern areas. In particular, during December 2025, instances were recorded where the daily mean PM10 concentration exceeded 300 µg/m³. This value is more than six times higher than the World Health Organization’s 24-hour guideline (45 µg/m³) and also exceeds the maximum permissible daily concentration established by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan (300 µg/m³). Diurnal distribution analysis revealed that concentrations during the evening and nighttime period (18:00-06:00) were 1.3-1.7 times higher than during daytime hours. Throughout the winter season, the fact that the mass fraction of PM2.5 particles in smaller than PM10 particles averages 60-75%, which indicates the predominance of anthropogenic combustion products. A noticeable improvement in ambient air quality was observed only in February 2026, when PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations decreased to within the national maximum permissible limits. The findings have significant practical implications for assessing environmental risks associated w
