This article deals with the term “lacuna”, where the word in one language can not find the equivalent in another language. Phenomenon of lacunarity creates a number of difficulties not only on the language level, but also in the translation and teaching foreign lang-guages. In this sense, it is necessary to investigate the concept of lacuna. This article describes a number of world scientists’ description to the term “lacuna” and the author tried to develop its optimal descriptive system. The methods of classification of lacunas, which were proposed by different linguists and translators, have been investigated in a comparative way.
