The article addresses issues related to the training of specialists in the context of digital transformation. The impact of information infrastructure on various spheres of societal activity is demonstrated. Foreign models of engineering education and the role of the competency-based approach in training specialists in network technologies are examined. The concept of competence is defined, and the importance of developing specific competencies in graduates specializing in network technologies is highlighted. An analysis of the primary responsibilities and requirements for specialists in data communication network technologies is conducted.
