The article provides a brief overview of sociological research that has been carried out in libraries abroad over the past few years (2012–2021). The aim of the study was to study the current information on sociological research in the field of librarianship conducted abroad. The work is based on the available sources presented in the bibliographic and abstract database Scopus. The article analyzes 25 foreign publications.
Content analysis of the works made it possible to identify the main directions of sociological research in libraries abroad: reading preferences, ways of attracting readers to the library, the needs of students, technical equipment of libraries and interaction with local communities.
The main research methods used in libraries are illustrated. The most popular methods of collecting information include questionnaires. The analysis of the behavior of library visitors is carried out through observation or semi-structured interviews. Research into community engagement uses content analysis techniques for library social media accounts. Although it should be noted that most often researchers use combined methods of collecting information.
