The history of the Karakalpaks, as an important ethnic group in Central Asia, is often hiddenunder the cover of myths and legends. However, archival documents stored in the archives of the Khiva khans represent a valuable source of information about the past of this people. In this article we will explore the history of the Karakalpaks based onthese documents in order to reveal key events, the influence of the Khiva Khanate on their fate, and also identify the relationships between ethnic groups in the past. Analysis of archival materials will help to more deeply understand the history of the Karakalpaks and their place in the cultural and political landscape of the region
