We study backward second harmonic generation in periodically and aperiodically poled quasi-phase matched crystals both numerically, and analytically. We apply the shooting method for our numerical analysis. Due to rapid and efficient numerical technique we were able to analyze the given frequency conversion process in detail, taking into account various factors: pump intensity, group velocity mismatch and dispersion, linear phase mismatch and “chirp” of nonlinear grating. We also derive several approximation solutions for calculating backward harmonic’s efficiency, applicable at the un-depleted pump approximation.
