The last two decades have been marked by an increase in the life expectancy of the population, and accordingly the percentage of elderly patients has increased, in the practice of a modern doctor. Typically, in such patients, one or more concomitant diseases are noted, each of which requires an assessment of the severity and selection of therapy. In addition, elderly patients are characterized by the atypical nature of the clinical picture, which is associated with difficulties in diagnosing diseases, as well as assessing the patient›s condition. Thus, an elderly patient, and, accordingly, his treatment strategy differs from a patient of other age categories.
