The rational value of «short» retardation is established based on the characteristics of the rocks, the rate of crack growth and the distance to the open surface in the direction of which they grow. The obvious conclusion of the proposed dependence is the fact that a necessary condition for achieving the required degree of fragmentation, along with the number of charges and the sequence of their group explosion, is the establishment of the parameters of the spatial position of the charges relative to open surfaces and to each other.
