This article analyzes modern methods for calculating the interaction between the lining of shallow transport (subway) tunnels and the soil. The main focus is on the mathematical modeling of the "soil – lining" system based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). A comparative analysis is made of various design schemes used to assess the strength and deformation of tunnel structures (arch systems, the Winkler hypothesis, elastic half-space model, etc.). The specific aspects of calculating tunnels under reconstruction within current regulatory documents, the two-stage nature of ground pressure, and the uncertainty of soil parameters are highlighted. The proposed approach enables more accurate and reliable results in the design of tunnel linings and the assessment of their technical condition.
