ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This review critically assesses current remote sensing and GIS approaches for monitoring wind erosion and dust emission in arid and semi-arid regions of Central Asia. It synthesizes studies on optical satellite observations, SAR/InSAR, UAVs, erosion models such as RWEQ, and aerosol products. The findings indicate that optical data are effective for assessing vegetation cover and exposed soil, SAR/InSAR provides complementary structural change information, and AOD/AAI characterize the atmospheric phase of dust events. The review emphasizes that an integrated framework combining remote sensing, GIS, erosion modeling, meteorological observations, UAV surveys, and ground-based measurements is the most promising direction for operational monitoring, particularly in the Aral Sea basin.
