This article discusses the potential and role in the economy of the electric power industry in the light of the ongoing reforms in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The data on the installed capacity of power plants, the production of electric power, losses in the transmission of electricity through electrical networks, as well as the consumption of electricity in various sectors of the economy is given.The prospects for the development of the industry as a key factor in the ongoing reforms are considered. Recommendations are presented for increasing power generation.
