The article shows the findings of research studies of earth working machines made of locally manufactured carbon steel cast needle spinning stars. The chemical composition, mechanical characteristics and macro- and microstructure parameters of the steels under study have been investigated. Optimal chemical and thermal treatment modes were applied-nitro cement with subsequent hardening and low tempering. The quenching was carried out directly from the furnace after the entire nitro cement period, setting up to 800-825оС. As within 6-8 hours, and hardened samples were released at 180-200оС. Sample hardness and microhardness were measured before and after heat treatment, and abrasive wear was tested on the working surface. The wear resistance of cast parts has been shown to increase by 2-3 times after optimal heat treatment.
