This article discusses comparative analyzes of clearance control methods in a spur bevel gear. The traditional designs of bevel gear reducers provide the only possibility of adjusting the lateral clearance in the gearing by joint axial movements of both wheels. The clearance adjustment used in the assembly of a real transmission by axial displacements of the bevel wheels inevitably leads to a deterioration of the fit of the teeth, and it should be considered unacceptable. In a fully adjustable bevel gear with an adjustable design compensator in the form of a pair of rotary oblique washers, the clearance in the engagement is directly controlled by a change in the interaxal angle, which does not affect the quality of the tooth fit. The presence of the adjusting device and, accordingly, the compensation link in the dimension chain, which determines the accuracy of the angle between the axes of rotation of the bevel wheels, determines the transmission assembly by the compensation method.
