The article presents the analysis of the research in the field of dermatoglyphics, in particular on the establishment of the role of heredity in the manifestation of comb patterns. Dermatoglyphic patterns, often used in forensic analysis, are valuable in diagnosing many diseases associated with chromosomal or genetic disorders. As recent achievements in the field of the human genome study show, there is a clear connection between dermatoglyphic indicators and genetic parameters, in particular, with the polymorphism of specific genes. Dispite a small amountof research in this area, the positive relationships may be useful in creating the screening methods based on dermatoglyphics to identify a complex of genetic polymorphisms associated with both the development of diseases and achievements in sports.
