In cotton processing enterprises, when transferring cotton raw materials to
technological processes, the pneumotransport system is used. In this process, raw cotton is moved in
air pipes with a diameter of 400 mm or 300 mm. In the process of picking, transporting and storing
cotton raw materials, heavy and solid foreign impurities of different sizes are added to the raw
materials. In order to effectively separate heavy and solid foreign compounds from the composition of
raw materials, the pneumotransport system is equipped with devices for separating heavy compounds
(trap chamber). Linear trap chambers are the first device that affects the technological and quality
parameters of the transported cotton, and serve to remove foreign bodies, as well as heavy impurities
in the process of air transport of cotton. Our research has shown that raw cotton is hit with a certain
force on the walls of lined trap chambers. These shocks lead to defects in cotton fibre and a decrease
in the quality of the seed. Today, cylindrical trap chambers are widely used in a number of cotton gin
factories. They differ from others in the simplicity of construction and ease of installation. However,
cylindrical traps have a low holding efficiency (60%) and in their operation, the walls of the working
chamber are broken by the impact of cotton. The article presents the theoretical foundations of studying
the state of pieces of cotton in the trap chamber and determining some design and technological
parameters of the device.
