The paper describes the need to update the rolling stock fleet with locomotives and wagons with improved technical and economic characteristics due to the accelerated development of railway transport infrastructure. At the same time, it is important to develop the design of a dynamometer wagon to check the critical mass norms and conditions for passing trains on mountainous sections of the track. The developed program and methodology of static tests for compressive/tensile strength of a prototype dynamometer wagon for special technical purposes are presented.
