At this stage translation theory and practice is studied from different approaches like the other scientific spheres. At present studying punctuation as a formal side of the language and the element of influencing the quality of translation is considered and remained topical. The article for the first time considers punctuation as one of the types of transformation used in translation process. The reasons and various factors of changing of punctuation marks in translation is presented in the example taken from fiction. On the basis of translation examples taken from the original the existence of linguocultural peculiarities of using punctuation marks in the text including a full stop, a comma, a colon, a semicolon, a dash and so on is proven. For objectivity of the analysis a statistical method was used. The article discusses aspects of translation transformations related to punctuation. The reasons for the change of punctuation marks in the translation are explained using interpretation methods and they are shown by analyzing examples. An analysis of the transformation of punctuation marks is carried out on the example of a direct translation of the novel The Woman in Whiteby Wilkie Collins from English into Uzbek. In connection with the translation of punctuation marks, the original and translation texts are compared to define the degree of preservation of the characteristics of punctuation marks.Findings in analysis are determined on the basis of their similarity and differences in their functions
