ARTICLE ANNOTATION

Background. One of the most important directions in the chemistry of high molecular weight compounds is the production of biologically active polymers by introducing drugs or other low molecular weight substances into the macromolecular chain of polysaccharides. The main objective of this approach is that, after chemical modification, drugs, compared with the initial state, should have improved physicochemical and pharmacological properties, which, respectively, are determined by the selection of the carrier polymer, its molecular weight, structure, and some reaction conditions. In this regard, it is urgent to obtain new macromolecular systems by chemical modification of medicinal substances with polymeric compounds. Target. Synthesis of water-soluble derivatives of sulfamethoxazole by chemical modification of the drug with reactive dialdehyde derivatives of pectin, determination of the structure, composition of the obtained compounds and optimal conditions for the reaction of nucleophilic substitution. Methodology. The structure and composition of the obtained polymeric derivatives of sulfamethoxazole were investigated by IR, UV spectroscopy and elemental analysis for nitrogen content. Originality. For the first time, on the basis of a nucleophilic substitution reaction using dialdehyde pectin derivatives as a carrier polymer, a chemical modification of an antimicrobial drug was carried out and its water-soluble derivatives were obtained. Findings. By varying the reaction conditions, water-soluble derivatives of sulfamethoxazole with different drug contents in the macromolecular chain of the polymer carrier were synthesized.Highlights: - chemical modification of sulfamethoxazole with dialdehyde pectin derivatives; - optimal reaction conditions, structure and composition of the obtained compounds
