ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This study examined the growth and cultural properties of Alternaria alternata isolates from purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea L.) on various nutrient media. Potato dextrose agar (PDA), potato glucose agar (PGA), Suslo agar, and Czapek-Dox medium were used in the experiment. The results showed that on potato media (KDA and KGA), the isolates grew rapidly, almost completely filling the Petri dish and producing a large number of spores. The conidia were multiseptate, elliptical, and averaging 30 x 12 μm in size. On Sour Agar and Czapek-Dox medium, they developed and produced few spores. These results are consistent with existing literature and demonstrate that the use of potato media as optimal growth media for A. alternata is effective in studying the biological and morphological characteristics of the pathogen in laboratory conditions.
