Abstract. Introduction. Under modern conditions, maintaining a favorable hydraulic regime in mechanical water-lifting systems requires efficient solutions. The use of protective hydraulic structures in water flows, which utilize the energy of the flow in the form of floating devices, is considered a rational approach. Methods and Materials. The paper employs a method for determining stress distribution based on an elementary tetrahedral model to derive the differential form of the governing equations of fluid motion. Results. Based on the obtained theoretical principles, fundamentally new self-regulating floating structures have been developed. The hydrodynamic characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional flow motion were determined for the parameters of the wing profile. Conclusion. The theory of unsteady three-dimensional motion of a multiphase flow, considering its artificial stratification and selective protection of phases at depth, can be applied in floating systems at water intake facilities of large pumping stations.
