Cement concrete pavements operating under the climatic conditions of the Republic of Uzbekistan are subjected to significant temperature variations over short periods of time. This leads to a non-uniform temperature distribution across the slab thickness. Such temperature variations cause the development of thermal stresses within the concrete, which may exceed the tensile strength of the material and result in the initiation of microcracks. As a consequence, the structural integrity and service life of the pavement are significantly reduced. This problem is particularly relevant for existing cement concrete pavements in Uzbekistan. In this study, the thermal stress values developing in cement concrete pavement slabs under realistic temperature conditions were determined using the ABAQUS software package. The results of the finite element–based analysis revealed a pronounced redistribution of thermal stresses throughout the slab volume, with maximum tensile stresses forming near the pavement surface.
