ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This article presents a comparative analysis of five international scientific studies conducted in India, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and China on the assessment of water requirements for cotton and wheat using CROPWAT 8.0 software developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The analysis demonstrates that CROPWAT provides a reliable tool for assessing crop evapotranspiration (ETc), irrigation water requirements, and water footprint under diverse soil and climatic conditions. The findings consistently indicate that the water requirement of cotton is substantially higher than that of wheat across all reviewed studies. Under the conditions of Uzbekistan, particularly in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the seasonal irrigation water requirement for cotton was estimated at 4,200–7,000 m³/ha. The obtained results have practical significance for scientifically based irrigation planning and improving the efficiency of water resource use in water-scarce regions.
