This article presents the results of a sociological survey examining the opinions of Novosibirsk readers regarding the activities of public libraries in disseminating scientific and popular science knowledge, as well as their willingness to attend scientific events held at libraries. A total of 1,428 readers of Novosibirsk public libraries were surveyed. The survey yielded data on readers’ preferred events, their scientific interests, and their trust in science. Seventy-seven percent of respondents are interested in popular science information, and 50% attend popular science events, including those held at the library. Readers’ interests include medicine and psychology, and the most preferred form of popular science event is lectures, followed by excursions and exhibitions of scientific and popular science literature. Thus, we conclude that the library remains relevant despite the large number of diverse information sources, and readers continue to access its resources and services.
