This article provides a detailed overview of the process of digitising library collections as a strategic direction for the modern information and library system. The article examines the theoretical foundations of digitisation, the mechanisms for organising the process in stages, technological requirements, digital formats and methodological approaches to working with metadata. Furthermore, the article provides an in-depth examination of the formation of the e-library concept, its historical stages of development, international standards for the creation and preservation of electronic resources, the capabilities of digital platforms, and the types of user-friendly services that can be developed. The article also covers the digitisation work being carried out within the Uzbek information and library system, the experience of National libraries, It also includes analytical information on the current state of the regulatory and legal framework, as well as the existing infrastructure.
