This article provides information on the composition, production and
classification of packaging board. The packaging cardboard is equally suitable for
packaging a wide variety of goods - food, perfumery, cosmetics, household chemicals etc.
The same components and manufacturing principle as for paper are used for the
production of packaging board. The primary parameter determining the compression
strength of the box is the static bending stiffness of the paperboard. In contrast to strength,
which is determined by the force or stress required to fracture a material or structure,
stiffness describes the resistance of a structure to deformation. Cartons for the packaging
industry need strength properties such as delamination resistance, release strength, crush
resistance and edge compression. In addition, the paperboard is subjected to tensile
forces in various processing steps. In connection with above stated, in this paper we
analyzed basic characteristics and physical-mechanical properties of cardboards widely
used in packaging industry with single-side double-coated Savvibrite C2S, Ningro Star
C2S, Luxstar art board C2S. Structural, optical and physical-mechanical properties are
evaluated. Revealing of quantitative dependences between composition of initial paper
pulp and its mechanical indicators, and also between quantity of auxiliary substances
(fillers, gluing, etc.) and damp-proof properties of papers and boards is actual, as it gives
the chance to predict properties and quality of board, that will allow to receive finished
goods with improved consumer properties. According to results of research of mechanical
properties of experimental boards it is possible to draw a conclusion that all samples
correspond to all requirements of standard documents and can be used for manufacturing
of packing production.
