В статье изучено общее состояние исторической науки Узбекистана в годы Второй мировой войны, проанализирована научная деятельность Узбекского филиала Академии наук СССР, а также  института истории и археологии Академии наук УзССР. На основе архивных документов освещены обогащение научного потенциала академии наук УзССР за счет эвакуированных ученых из Москвы и Ленинграда и его значение в развитии исторической науки Узбекистана. Приведены данные по итогам научной деятельности историков и археологов Академии наук УзССР с 1941 по 1945 годы.

During the years of World War II the representatives of science, education and culture made their deserving contribution to the victory over fascist aggressors alongside with workers and toilers

Scientists of the humanities of Uzbekistan - historians, archaeologists, orientalists, literary critics, linguists, economists and philosophers directed their scientific-creative activities to the development of the scientific potential of the country, as well as humanism and patriotism among peoples’ masses.

Men of science, like others took hardships of the war period on their shoulders, they carried out all the tasks, fulfilled duties in time.

Besides agitation and propaganda works, they carried on new researches in the sphere of fundamental sciences, supervised scientific papers of young specialists.

From the first days of the war the institutes of the Union academy of sciences and men of science were evacuated to Uzbekistan from western regions of the USSR. The institute of oriental studies as well as history, world literature, history of material culture and other research institutes of the Academy of sciences of the USSR, academicians B.V. Struve, V. D. Grekov, member-correspondents of the USSR Academy of sciences E.E.Bertels, B.F.Shigmarov, A.Ju.Yakubovsky, A.A.Mihaylov and others moved to the city of Tashkent in the autumn of 1941. The formation of the Academy of sciences of Uzbek SSR in September of 1943 was a great event in the life of the republic.

The opening ceremony of the Academy of sciences of Uzbekistan took place on November 4, 1943. T.N. Kari-Niyazov was elected first president of the Academy of sciences. The Academy of sciences of Uzbekistan made serious scientific achievements during 1943-1945. Soon it turned into a well-known research centre.

The Institute of history and archaeology came into being on the basics of the department of “History and archaeology” of the branch in November 1943.

In consisted of 5 departments: “History of the Soviet society”, “New history”, “Ancient and medieval history” and “Archaeology”.

Eight major themes entered the 1944 plan of research works: ethnogeny of Uzbek people, pages from the history of culture of Uzbek people, pages from the history of the people of Uzbekistan (2 volumes), Uzbekistan during the war time (1941-1945), Uzbek mode of life and culture on the basis of the materials of ethnography, archaeology-ethnographic observations at the construction sites, history of lives of prominent people.

Twenty three scientific institutions particularly 11 research institutes, 2 laboratories and 2 museums within the Academy in 1943 worked actively. Three    honorary members of the Academy, 15 active members, 20 correspondent members, 54 doctors of science, 172 candidates of sciences, totaly 1265 scholars carried on research works in different fields of science. They were engaged in the solution of the complex problems directed to the  development of important branches of the national economy, study of the natural resources of the republic as well.
