The article presents the results of studying the parameters of optical
matching of optical fibers with a micro lens at the end and semiconductor lasers. A
technique is described for obtaining high efficiency of radiation from a rectangular end
of semiconductor lasers into an optical fiber with a circular cross-section, for which it is
necessary to direct a scattering laser beam with an elliptical cross-section to a circular
cross-section of the core at the end of the fiber. A technique for measuring the efficiency
of matching an optical fiber with a semiconductor laser is described. The dependence of
the tuning efficiency on the semi-angle of the semiconductor laser beam is shown. The
experimentally obtained dependences of the radiation power from the end face of the
laser and the end face of a segment of single-mode optical fibers on the pump current
are presented graphically. Special measures were taken to filter cladding modes in the
segment of single-mode optical fibers. A device has been developed that provides highprecision positioning of the optical fiber and the emitting area of the semiconductor laser
relative to each other along three linear coordinates and two angular ones. The principle
of operation of the device, which provides mutual accurate positioning of single-mode
optical fibers with a micro lens at the end and semiconductor lasers, is described in
detail.
