One of the factors determining the conditions and the effectiveness of the
explosion of borehole charges is the internal borehole stemming. Its size and quality largely
determine the blast hole efficiency ratio (BER), the uniformity of crushing of the array, as well as
the amount of dust and toxic gases entering the mine atmosphere during an explosion. The
purpose of the study was to study the influence of the chemical composition of mine waters and
ambient temperature, as well as various parameters on the time of manufacture of a hydrogel
stemming for boreholes. The experiments were carried out under different temperature
conditions and in different ratios of water: hydrogel for determining the swelling time of the
hydrogel. As a result of the study, the influence of ambient temperature in the range from 5 ° C to 30 ° C and the chemical composition of water on the swelling rate was determined for the
first time. During the study, the following features were identified: hydrogel granules of less
than 1 mm are connected to each other and come to a ready state for use as a stemming; the
influence of temperature and water properties that affect the rate of hydrogel swelling is
investigated; the rational ratio of hydrogel and water that can be used as a cull is determined.
According to the results of experiments, it was found that, except for fractions larger than 1
mm, they do not combine into one whole mass. And hydrogel granules with dimensions < 1.0
mm are combined and come to a ready state (combined into one whole mass), and this allows
the use of waste hydrogel granules for the manufacture of a stemming and with this improves
the quality of the produced hydrogel for agricultural needs
