In mechanical engineering, particularly machine tool building, magnetically
controlled sealed reed contacts are becoming widespread. They are used in devices with electrical
and mechanical control; the latter include encoders of positions or displacements(CDS).The
technical and operational characteristics of the CDS are determined by the method of reading
information from the cadascal scale and the type of scale. Some characteristics of the reed
switches used in the CDS are given on the 1st table. On the 2nd table , the main ways of reading
information are summarized - contact, non-contact, as well as reading by reed switches, that called
Magneto-resistive Sensors. MRS combines the advantages of contact and non-contact reading methods: the simplicity of the CDS design and high reliability. Compared to contactless reading
methods, MRS has advantages in characteristics and output signals (they do not require formation
and amplification) and in other maximum permissible operational values (the ability to work when
exposed to dust, moisture, radiation, oil, significant vibration and shock loads, as well as over a
wide temperature range).
