This paper sheds light on an early Maturidi scholar who remained obscure until recently: Abu al-Husayn al-Bashaghari, a prominent 4th/10th-century figure. He is the author of an important theological work titled Kashf al-Ghawamid fi Ahwal al-Anbiya (Unveiling the Obscurities Regarding the States of the Prophets), a book of such significance that Nur al-Din al-Sabuni later produced a summary of it under the title Al-Muntaqa min 'Ismat al-Anbiya. The study consists of two main parts. The first introduces Abu al-Husayn al-Bashaghari, addressing uncertainties surrounding his birth date, clarifying his name, lineage, and teachers, and establishing his authorship of Sharh Jumal Usul al-Din – a work previously misattributed to an anonymous author. The second part focuses on Kashf al-Ghawamid, verifying its attribution through manuscript catalogs and bibliographies, estimating its date of composition, identifying the key sources used, and analyzing its theological contributions. A detailed description of the extant manuscript is also included. Despite the scarcity of sources, this study compiles all accessible materials, offering a critical and unique contribution. The findings presented here, particularly in identifying and contextualizing the author and his works, are not available in any previous research.
