ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
Lamination is the process of applying a thin polymer protective film to the surface of paper to improve appearance, reduce wear, and extend the life of printed products. An adhesive solution or hot melt is used to bind the film to the surface of the paper. In this study, in order to increase the adhesive strength between the surface of the paper and the polymer film, paper was laminated with polypropylene film using an adhesive solution. Industrial polymers have been tested as adhesives: polyesters of methacrylic acid, polystyrene, polychloroprene and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (VAC). The polymer adhesive solution, unlike the melt, penetrates into the micropores of the paper and ensures strong adhesion of the polymer film to the paper surface. The highest adhesion strength between layers of laminated paper was found when using EVA copolymer. The dependence of adhesive strength on the concentration of the adhesive solution has been determined, and some physical and mechanical properties of laminated paper have been determined. FT-IR spectroscopic studies of polypropylene, VAC copolymer and laminated paper showed the absence of chemical interaction between them during the lamination process. Using SEM, the morphology was studied and the cross-sectional structure of laminated paper was determined.
