This article analyzes “Hashiyat Ibn Abidin” (Radd al-Muhtar), the work of one of the prominent scholars of the later period of the Hanafi school, Muhammad Amin Ibn Abidin. It discusses the structure, methodological approach, and source value of the work, as well as its significance in the development of the Hanafi school of law. The article also examines Ibn Abidin’s continuation of the tradition of independent legal reasoning (ijtihad), his role in harmonizing Sharia with the needs of his time, and his contribution to the methodology of issuing legal opinions (fatwa).
