ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This study is devoted to investigating the use of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) as a thickening agent in printing cotton fabrics with reactive dyes using a one-stage thermofixation process. The thickener is the main component of the printing paste and must be completely removed during the washing stage of the printed samples. Conventional thickeners used in textile enterprises of Uzbekistan are imported materials, which significantly increase the production cost. Therefore, the aim of this research was to evaluate the thickening properties of HPMC as a component of textile printing paste. Cellulose ether was synthesized from cotton linters by an alkaline method under etherification conditions at a pressure of 1.2–1.7 MPa for 40 minutes. A direct relationship was established between the viscosity of the cellulose ether and the content of hydroxypropyl groups in its molecular structure. In addition, an inverse relationship was found between the gelation temperature and the methoxy group content. The resistance of printed samples produced with a printing paste based on the cellulose ether thickener to various external influences was evaluated. The composition of the printing paste (g/kg) was as follows: reactive dye – 40; urea – 150; Ludigol – 10; sodium bicarbonate – 15; water (50–70 °C) – 285; thickener (1.5% solution) – 500
