This article provides a brief overview of the history of the Ottoman Archives in Turkey, the stages of their development, the nature of the documents contained within, and the extensive scope of materials due to the sheer size of the collection. Particular emphasis is placed on the reflection of Central Asian history in the archives of the Ottoman Empire. Indeed, the fact that tens of thousands of documents among the more than one hundred million housed in the Ottoman archives have yet to be introduced into scholarly circulation highlights a significant shortcoming in the fields of history and source studies. The article presents information on key archival collections that form the core of the Ottoman archive’s formation process, such as the Bab-ı Ali, Bab-ı Defteri, Bab-ı Seraskeri, and Bab-ı Meşihat. As an example, the article refers to a portion of the vast number of documents concerning the history of the Central Asian khanates preserved in the archive, particularly those from the second half of the 16th century relating to regions such as Bukhara, Khwarezm, Fergana, Tashkent, and Samarkand. These documents contain valuable political, social, and economic information, as well as details about various historical figures.
