This article examines the prospects of using coarse sheep wool as a feed additive in livestock production. It is noted that wool contains keratin, a complex protein characterized by high resistance to enzymatic degradation, which makes its direct use in animal feeding difficult. Special attention is given to keratin processing methods, including chemical approaches (alkaline hydrolysis) and biological methods involving microorganisms and enzymes such as keratinase. It is emphasized that biotechnological methods are the most environmentally friendly and promising. The article also considers the possibility of enriching hydrolyzed wool with minerals (calcium, phosphorus, and trace elements) to produce complex feed additives that enhance animal productivity and improve health.
