Formation and Development of Historical Science in Uzbekistan (20th – early 21st century)

The article analyzes the formation and development of historical science in Uzbekistan in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The author identifies three stages in the development of historical science, highlights key research directions, themes, and scholarly issues, and describes major monographic works on the history of Uzbekistan from antiquity and the Middle Ages to the modern era. A brief thematic and bibliographic review is also presented of historians' efforts to prepare and publish the works of luminaries of medieval science in Uzbekistan over the past 120 years, with a particular focus on the last three decades. In-depth research has been conducted on statehood and civilization in the Turan region, archaeology, source studies and historiography, ethnic history and ethnogenesis, ethnology, anthropology and ethnography, the history of the national liberation movement, Jadidism, and political repressions against these movements from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries.
