This article examines the book of Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi titled “Al-Jami‘ li-akhlaq al-rawi wa-adab al-sami‘”, which holds a significant place in the “Mutaqaddimun” stage of hadith studies. The book is considered one of the valuable sources on the science of hadith, the etiquette of transmission, and the ethics of hadith scholars. This article provides an in-depth study of the content of “Al-Jāmiʿ,” examining the chains of transmission and textual aspects of the narrations, and systematically analyzes the traditional pedagogical ethics of hadith scholarship as well as the concept of journey (rihla). The article also analyzes the structure of this source, the concept of scholarly journey (rihla) advanced within it, as well as the issues of relationships between teachers and students. In addition, the study elucidates, from a scholarly perspective, the requirements concerning the moral and ethical character of hadith transmitters presented in the book, as well as the socio-cultural norms related to the pursuit of knowledge. As a result of the study, the significance of al-Khaṭīb al-Baghdādī’s work in the contemporary study of hadith methodology has been substantiated.
