The article explores the contribution of natives of Bukhara and Khiva to the development of Islamic life in Moscow from the 17th to the early 19th centuries. Based on pre-revolutionary historical works and archival sources, the study examines the Bukhara and Khiva diplomatic courtyards, their functions, and their role in the trade and diplomatic relations between the Moscow state and the Central Asian khanates. Special attention is given to the Tatar Sloboda in Zamoskvorechye - a center of Muslim life where Tatars, Bukharans, Khivans, and other ethnic groups lived for centuries. In 1823-1824, a mosque was built on Bolshaya Tatarskaya Street, becoming the spiritual center of the Muslim community. For the first time, the article details the activities of the Bukharan merchant Nazarbai Alibaevich Hoshalov - the initiator and benefactor of the construction of Moscow's first stone mosque, now known as the Historical Mosque. Biographical information is provided about his family, commercial work, and social engagement. The activities of imams from Khiva - Bakei-seyid Abdulov, Makhmet-Salih Mukhammetov, and Devlet-Ali Malikov - who led the spiritual life of Moscow's Muslims in the 17th century are also examined. The study shows that the Tatar Sloboda was not only a religious but also a cultural center where Islamic piety and educational traditions were preserved. Based on newly discovered documents, the article highlights the contribution of Central Asian Muslims in Moscow—particularly those from Bukhara and Khiva—to the formation of the city's spiritual and cultural landscape.
