The article examines the translations of religious texts such as the «Qur’an», «Kitāb al-Isrāʾ wa-l-Miʿrāj» («The Book of the Night Journey and Ascension»), «Kitāb al-Anwār» («The Book of Lights»), «Masāʾil ʿAbdallāh ibn Salām» («The Questions of ʿAbdallāh ibn Salām»), and «Risālat al-Kindī» («The Epistle of al-Kindī»), into Latin during the 12th–13th centuries. The study is based on a comparative analysis of manuscript copies preserved in Paris, Oxford, Milan, Turin, and the Vatican. The main focus of the study is the analysis of the translation methods used in the creation of Latin versions of “the Holy Qur’an.” These texts are compared with the original Arabic manuscripts, revealing the errors and inaccuracies made by the translators. Based on primary written sources, the article highlights that during this period, the Christian Church acted as the main initiator of translation activities. Its primary goal in promoting the translation of Islamic texts into Latin was to oppose Islam and Islamic philosophy, which were regarded as the main ideological rivals within the medieval Christian intellectual sphere. Based on the results of the analysis, the article concludes that interreligious conflicts of the medieval period had a profoundly negative influence on the interpretation and lexical choices in the Latin translations. As a result of the translators’ attempts to adapt Islamic texts to the Christian worldview, numerous distortions and inaccuracies emerged in the Latin accounts concerning sacred Islamic writings and the personality of the Prophet.
