ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
Islam originated on the Arabian Peninsula and later spread to Persia and the Levant during the era of the Rashidun Caliphs, leading to a significant portion of the local populations in those regions embracing the faith. During the reign of Umar (r.a.), the Persian empire was conquered and Islam began to spread into the territories of Iraq. “However, the territory of Iraq — the land between two rivers — has long been considered one of the centers of civilization. Various ethnic and religious groups have lived in this region.” “After the majority of the local population became Muslim, various religious disagreements arose with representatives of other faiths and doctrines. The main and earliest sects of Islam also emerged specifically in the territory of Iraq — such as the Kharijites, the Mu’tazilites, and the Shiites.” Imam Abu Hanifa, the founder of the Hanafi, lived and worked in this region. “Imam Abu Hanifa, while teaching numerous students the sciences of Fiqh and Aqidah, also engaged in debates with representatives of various sects that existed at the time and defended the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah.” “While teaching many students the sciences of fiqh and aqidah, Imam Abu Hanifa also engaged in debates with representatives of various sects that existed at the time and defended the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah.” “According to historical sources, Imam Abu Hanifa traveled to the city of Basra more than twenty times to engage in debates with representatives of various misguided sects. In his works on the science of creed (‘aqidah), Imam Abu Hanifa not only presented the pure theological views of Ahl al-Sunnah but also refuted the claims of deviant sects.” “One of such works is al-Fiqh al-Absat, in which theological issues are presented in a question-and-answer format. This article first analyzes various scholarly opinions regarding the authorship of the book. It also provides key information about the only known commentary attributed to several scholars. The article explores the main theological topics discussed in al-Fiqh al-Absat, highlighting how Imam Abu Hanifa, in many instances, refuted the incorrect beliefs of misguided sects by using both textual (naqli) and rational (aqli) proofs.” “One of the noteworthy aspects of the work is that it is written in a question-and-answer format. This approach helps readers better understand and remember theological issues. The work is recognized as one of the earliest theological texts associated with the Hanafi school of thought.
