Professional competencies of academic librarians in conducting medical research: a review of foreign publications

This article provides an overview of the completed study and discusses the need to incorporate research support, one of the most important competencies of modern university libraries, into the training process. Research competence was identified as a key competency for librarians. The Association of Medical Libraries defined research competence as knowledge and ability to use qualitative and quantitative research principles, results, research literature, and realistic and potential research evaluation methods. According to the results, participants identified six competencies: finding and evaluating information resources, using research software, research assistance, intellectual property literacy, scientific publication literacy, and scientometrics and altmetrics in the area of specialized competencies.
