The Issue of Library Activities in the Education System

This article analyzes the processes of the formation and development of librarianship in the territory of Uzbekistan in the early 20th century based on historical sources and archival documents. The study highlights the stages of library development—from traditional libraries to new types of mass libraries established during the Soviet period. It also examines the policy of the People’s Commissariat of Education of the Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic regarding the organization of library activities, their centralization, and the transformation of libraries into instruments of ideological propaganda. Based on archival materials, the activities of libraries in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Fergana are examined, including their collections, user composition, and organizational structure. The article scientifically substantiates the role of libraries in cultural and educational life, their importance in shaping a reading culture, and their contribution to the development of society.
